Airmail - Your Mail With You App Reviews

Fantastic feature set, poor reliablity

Airmail offers a great set of features, and, important for me, good integration with Gmail and a variety of other services including Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Box, Things, Google Tasks, Fantastical, Evernote, and Things. The app is remarkably customizable, both in its behaviors and in appearance. Even better, its possible to sync these customizations with the desktop version of the application, so you only have to configure the app once. The app designers also made smart choices (and allow further customizations) about which settings sync and which ones dont, which is great since I dont read email exactly the same way on my phone as on my desktop. Unfortunately, reliability issues turn what should be a five-star review into only a one-star review. Most notably, I can archive or delete several dozen messages on my phone or iPad, only to see that these actions have not been reflected on the server *and* to have them reappear in the phone a few minutes later. This makes me duplicate a lot of work, and its frustrating. So, in summary, this is a great app that has become progressively less reliable over the last year or so. Until they get their act together, I recommend you get a different app.

Lots of features but weak on threads

Bought this app today hoping for the best. Airmail has lots of customizations which I like. Looks beautiful. But its unusable for me. Its missing a key feature the stock Mail app has: a listing of the mails in a thread (what they call a conversation). In the stock Mail app you hit the >> button and the left panel shows you all the mails in a thread. In Airmail theres no such view. You can only open the thread completely and scroll-scroll-scroll on the right hand side (which feels like a map that doesnt let you zoom out). I filed a bug. Til then, no Airmail for me.

Updated Review: Not Great After Extensive Use

Updated review. It had much promise, but too many bugs have flown out since using it extensively for some time. I have to downgrade my review significantly. Here are the three biggest issues that have taken away from my experience: -- offline use isnt seamless; when sending on a plane without wifi, for example, I get connection errors -- why not support offline use more smoothly? Once reconnected, it wasnt clear when/if Airmail would then send out of my oubox (a-la classic email clients, like Outlook)... it did eventually... so no major mishap, but not great from a usability perspective. -- syncing across devices goes out of alignment, often inconsistent # of emails in inbox, etc. Why do I have 21 emails on iPad and iPhone but 17 on Mac? Doesnt appear to be rules Ive created on each device... I dont feel like resetting the Gmail IMAP yet again to get them to align... -- Various minor bugs: Draft saved when doing quick response does not include prior email material (forcing me to delete quick-response draft, then restarting); carriage returns in email view may differ sometimes showing 2 vs. 1 carriage returns; cannot do reply-all quick response; when I say "next week" on Monday at 7am to snooze, Airmail thinks I mean that very Monday at 8am and emails pop back... and more...

Crashes constantly. Completely unusable.

I really wanted to like this email client, since Im a big fan of the desktop version. The problem is that the app is too buggy to be even remotely usable. Occasionally the app will crash simply by refreshing my inbox. Actually viewing an email (both plaintext and HTML) is guaranteed to crash the app every time. Its not an email provider issue, as I have a mix of Gmail, privately hosted email and Microsoft Exchange accounts.

Great client a few glitches but great support.

Ive been trying out the Mac and iOS clients together. Its great how they give you a lot of power and I feel like Im just scratching the surface for improving my email habits with snooze and powerful smart folders. I have had some problems with things not syncing properly between devices, but whenever I do, the support team helps. Most recently got fast clear assistance from Sarah. I am happy with this purchase.

Excellent mailbox

I tried many apps but exactly this app is best. It has very helpful and fast support (thank you Sarah), great design and many features I use.

Significant syncing issu

On iPhone 6s gmail and iPads, the syncing is very bad now. Was not like that earlier. I am changing apps. Too bad since I paid for this .

Would be five stars if badge count worked accurately

Airmail is a full-featured email app. But unfortunately it doesnt update new message badge count accurately. I use Newton Mail now. It works fine.

Love.

Love this app, both in iOS and MacOS. Very intuitive, works for all my various accounts, lets me send directly to my calendars, lets me easily see unread/read emails with one touch and empty trash folders across all my accounts with one touch. So easy. On another note, at almost midnight, I sent off a note to support and got several responses in just a moment with very helpful kind support from Sarah - again, just awesome. Every app should work at least this well and be supported this well.

Its ok!

Good ideas but honestly too complicated, too many options for actioning an email, defaults to too many notifications and it crashes on me about once a week. Needs to be simpler IMO.

Dont buy until airmail fixes the sync issues

Delete an email on your mac in airmail, and and sometimes it stays in your inbox on iPad/iPhone and sometimes it doesnt. Airmail tech support is not responsive to this issue. Dont purchase the iPad/iPhone version until the problem is fixed. A good solution for an all-mac world is airmail on the mac, and outlook on iPad/iPhone.

Back and forth

I go back and forth on this app. It works for mail and has a ton of features. However it lags a bit sometimes and the spam feature doesnt work well. IOS mail apps seem to be the holy grail that no one can find.

Everything was OK since last update!

Airmail was working without any issues until the recent update. From now,Im unable to use Mail, send or receive messages. Please fix it asap!

Favorite iOS Mail app

Seems to be as speedy as the native app, but with way more features. Im a big fan of how the app helps you sort through your inbox, snooze / schedule emails, and generally be efficient. The support is good, as well. I had a question and Steven, the support rep, wrote back almost immediately with exactly the right answer.

Was great, been buggy since 1.6, worse with every update!

Latest updates have made this unusable, doesnt poll for new mail unless I force quit previous launch. Ive given up. I used this as my primary email application for over a year now, until this 1.6 release came out. Since then the application has been completely unreliable and buggy. It stops retrieving email, doesnt sync with servers correctly, and refuses to load remote images, and now crashes often. I have to force kill it several times a day to get it to start polling again. Very disappointed. Im done, went back to Apple Mail.

Good, but not on multiple devices

When I first got Airmail on my iMac, I loved it. Its powerful, quick, organized and works well with other accounts. I read that they had an iPad app as well, and that it syncs will with other devices...not so much. I installed it on my iPad Mini 4, and noticed right away, that email that I deleted on one device, were still on the other. Thats just a lot of unnecessary repetition. Their tech support said to empty the cache, which Ive done a couple times now...doesnt help. If Id known is be doing double the work on my devices, I wouldnt have paid for the apps. UPDATE - I came back going the updates would have fixed the problems. Right away I noticed the problem was still there. After many ridiculous back and forth messages, they came back with Gmail syncs, POP3 doesnt. This is a common feature on other apps, dont know why they cant do it.

No Textexpander Support.

Any app that involves any type of writing that does not include TextExpander support is a nonstarter. You can add all of the share extensions, bells, whistles, etc but if I can expand snippets, you have failed. I will come back when you add TE support.

Cant delete emails

Slide to erase email. Then email reappears in inbox...

Pretty good

A few tacky design elements like the vertical spacing between sender subject and text (left column) and the additional option (...) menu are plain ugly. Terrible icon. Extremely customizable though.

Used to be the best. Major issues lately.

I have been using Airmail on OSX since it was first created and as soon as the iOS version came out I was using that as well. I dont know whats changed in the past few months with the iOS codebase but mailboxes never seem to stay "in sync". For example, Ill be looking at a specific mail account inbox and will delete/take action on multiple emails. Then Ill switch to the "all inboxes" view and suddenly the emails I just took action on reappear in the list. If I wait long enough or pull down to force refresh it seems to sometimes fix itself but this shouldnt be happening. Sometimes my Gmail account wont even sync up properly. I have to go into the account settings and clear cache for things to get back to normal.
